St. Monica Extended School Program Study Hall
Grades 5 - 8

__________________________________________________________________________________

The St. Monica Extended School Program Study Hall provides an after school program for students attending grades 5-8 at St. Monica School.  The program operates from dismissal until 6:15 pm on days when school is in session.  No before school care is offered through the program.

Parents wishing to enroll their children are provided with a description of the program and an explanation of fees and payment options.

  •  Drop in care is not available.

  • Students who are not picked up on time will be brought to Study Hall where they may remain under the supervision of the Study Hall staff until they are picked up.  (See the St. Monica Family Handbook for Late Pick Up fees.)

  • A completed registration form, which includes all emergency information, is required before a student may attend the program.

  • A handbook outlining policies is given to each family and is updated yearly.

  • The program operates from the cafeteria where each grade level group has a designated home space.

  • The daily schedule includes outside time when snack can be eaten, indoor free play and games, quiet study time and homework help.

The staff of the program is lead by the director, Mrs. Karen Upton, who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Dallas, advanced post-graduate work and 11 years of experience teaching junior high aged students in the Irving Independent School District.  Mrs. Upton has been the director of the program since 1993.

The staff completes criminal background checks, safe environment training and interviews.  Ongoing guidance is provided during monthly staff meetings and individual conferences when the need arises.  The program asks parents to complete an evaluation of the program annually to help insure the continuation of a quality program.

The St. Monica Extended School Program Study Hall receives ongoing support from the principal, the church, the PTO and the Dad's Club.  The director and staff strive to meet the needs of the older St. Monica student by providing care for students of working parents.  The program also offers a place for students to be in a safe and productive environment before and after sports practices and other after school activities.
