Jina Kim (Music 1 - 8)

Thank you, parents, for taking interest in your child’s education.  My name is Jina Kim and I am pleased to be the music teacher at St. Monica School.  My mother was a concert pianist and as a young child I was always surrounded by Beethoven, Bach, and, my favorite, Mozart.  I was born in South Korea, raised in Texas, and currently reside in Dallas.  I graduated from the University of Dallas with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a concentration in music. But, I am back at UD to pursue my Master's degree in Education and Catholic School Leadership. I currently attend Global Harvest Church where I have been serving faithfully for nine years.  I am a vocalist and a pianist for the praise band, as well as, a small group leader.

My passion for teaching music began with private piano lessons which led me to become a music teacher at St. Marks Catholic School.  Christmas programs and directing musicals were a part of my enjoyments in teaching and they consisted of a combination of choirs, instruments, acting lessons with students, and prop design.  I also worked with the school choir on songs in preparation for the weekly mass.

My goals for this year are two-fold; children will learn the importance of music and music theory.  Music is important because it is a part of everyday life and can be used to express oneself.  Music theory is much like learning a new language;  it consists of reading and writing.  These goals will be accomplished through learning to play instruments, listening to various types of music, and playing musical games.

The journey that led me here has been a true testimony of God’s grace and blessing.  Before selecting a school, I prayed that the Lord would place me in a Christian environment where I can serve Him through teaching.  I thank the Lord for answering my prayers.  I look forward to providing the best education for your children.
