Mrs. Durant's Biography Hi. I’m Mrs. Durant, a sixth and eighth grade teacher, and I love to teach. Children are our greatest asset! It is a blessing to be here at St. Monica. This is my seventeenth year as a school teacher. I have six TEA (Texas Education Agency) certifications in Secondary English Grades 6-12, Secondary Language Arts, Secondary Speech Communication, Secondary Business Administration; Middle School Science Grades 4-8, and Elementary self-contained Grades 1-6; and have taught various subjects in both public and private schools in grades 4-12. While in San Antonio, I had the opportunity to teach computer applications and accounting at Providence High School, the all-girl Catholic school. My subject field here is science. Science is fun! For the past seven years, I have been a part of the Texas Regional Collaborative for Excellence Teaching (http://thetrc.org). As a result of these numerous professional development opportunities, I am a Science Teacher Mentor and cadre member who presents workshops pertaining to science teaching. Last summer, I helped edit curriculum prepared for TEA (Texas Education Agency) by UTD graduate students. The curriculum is entitled, "Geology: Changes over Time" and address K-8 TEKS. As a result, I am listed as the co-editor for that curriculum which is being presented and used throughout the state. From October, 2005 until May, 2007, I was the assistant editor of the Texas Science Teacher, a publication of the Science Teachers Association of Texas (STAT). In 2004, the Lovejoy ISD PTA honored me with a Lifetime Membership award. As for educational background, I have Master of Arts in Teaching Science from the University of Texas at Dallas. My undergraduate degree is in Secondary Education with an English and Business emphasis from the University of Texas at Tyler. Additionally, I have an Associate of Applied Science in Business Mid-management from the Dallas County Community College system; and an Associate in General Education from Navarro College where (for you trivia buffs) I was the last editor of the Growl college newspaper. The newspaper still exists, but has since been renamed. I graduated, valedictorian, from Blooming Grove High in Blooming Grove, Texas, a small town near Corsicana. Before I had the opportunity to teach, I worked in business as an accounts payable and fixed asset supervisor for Affiliated Computer Systems which became MTech (which later became part of EDS). I have thirteen years of experience in the business sector.
