September 2008 PTO Newsletter

  clipart_race_flag.gif  Ready,  SetGo...  We’re Off!

What a fabulous beginning!  It has been a very busy two weeks for the PTO. I would like to thank everyone who has helped with all the events which kicked off this school year.

We hope that you will join us for our first PTO General Meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 9th at 12:00 noon in the Downstairs Lounge of the Family Center. In case you have forgotten why it is so great to volunteer, I thought I would list the reasons:

  • When you stay home you get too many telemarketing calls.
  • Your family could use a break from you.
  • You might need help yourself one day.
  • It’s hard to win a game of solitaire.
  • Soap operas all sound alike.
  • If you don’t go out all day, you get old.
  • Why let your boss have all the fun in life?
  • The car needs a workout.
  • Your mom would be proud of you.
  • You get a pink shirt

If you have any question regarding the minutes or have additional thoughts you would like us to know about, please email us directly at pto@stmonicaschool.org. If you cannot make our PTO meetings, all minutes will be posted on the St. Monica website on our PTO page.

I am sure you have seen the “pink” moms and the “blue” dads around school by now.  Please thank all these volunteers for giving their time, their talents and their “can do” spirit. If you ever have a question about what is going on, please tap one of these volunteers on the shoulder and I am sure they can help! There are more PTO pink shirts available, so come and get involved. We can always use an extra set of hands.

There are several people who have given numerous hours to ease us all into the transition of Back To School. I would like to thank:

  • Maryann Barnett and Donna McKool for ordering our school supplies and the St. Monica Boy Scouts for taking them to each classroom.

  • Fran Drone and Leslie Wood for putting on a well organized Used Uniform Sale.

  • Roberta Tidwell and Julie Whipple and their TEAM of Grade Level Representatives who helped set up the coffees the first two days of school.

  • Lisa Madden and Caroline Quinlan who have coordinated the new sweatshirt orders and purchased wonderful items for the Spirit Store.

  • Kelly Doyle and Juliet Erwin who are busy putting the school Directory and e-Directory together!  Have you filled out the Directory e-form on the St. Monica website?

  • Shari Ackels, our new Spirit Coordinator for hanging balloons at all the Open Houses – Go St. Monica!

Also, a special thanks to all of you who have stepped up to volunteer your time to be Homeroom Parents for your children’s classrooms. We would be lost without your emails!

Finally, thank all of you on the PTO Board for your commitment and enthusiasm.

Welcome to all our PreSchool families who start school September 2nd and 3rd.  We look forward to having you at St. Monica. We can’t wait to meet you right after drop off at your Welcome Coffee!

Join us and all the St. Monica organizations for our Time & Talent Sunday , Sept 6th and 7th after masses. Learn about all that the St. Monica Community has to offer and discover ways to become involved in our school as well as our parish.

Autumnfest Chairs, Tricia Tobolka and Deanna Walker, are gearing up for yet another fabulous event on Saturday, October 25th.  Please look for the Autumnfest Guide in your child’s backpack on Thursday, September 25th.  Online ordering of tickets and t-shirts will also begin on that day. In the meantime, check our PTO website and click on the Autumnfest link often as things are just heating up!

Before I sign off, I found a wonderful quotation I would like to share with all of you spoken by the eloquent Martin Luther King.  “Everyone has the power of greatness. Not for fame, but greatness.  Because greatness is determined by service.”

Warmest regards,

Jennifer Bowring
