Happy Valentine’s Day, Everyone! The PTO had quite a busy start back to school last month. We had a number of events going on in January, and enjoyed having the opportunity to touch every child in the school at some time during Catholic Schools Week. It’s another long list of people to thank for their efforts on behalf of YOUR children and the school. First, let me congratulate the December Volunteer of the Month winner Joy Ferguson. Joy is grandmother to 7th grader Brianna Ferguson, and is always so giving of her time and talents to volunteer with the library and younger grades. The success of the events of the PTO is due to the dedication of so many people. All of the Grade Level reps, the Homeroom parents and the Board were instrumental in making everything go so smoothly during this busy time. Special thanks go to: Sally Wengierski, for continuing to set up excellent speakers in the PTO Speaker Series, bringing Mike Brock to the campus to discuss the difficult topic of Bullying, and for setting up a wonderful course on Middle School children with Kathleen Fischer that started last month;
Fran Drone and Leslie Wood, for putting on another successful Used Uniform Sale;
Deedy Hamer, for putting on one of the largest Open Houses St. Monica has had, and for coordinating a spectacular Family Dinner Night Event! The PTO provided dinner for over 800 people - a new record! The food was great and the lines were quick!
Lisa Madden and Karen Brown, as well as all of the volunteers who helped run the Spirit Store all last week.
Very special thanks goes to Becky Stephens, whose exceptional merchandising talent and ideas for the Bearcat Blowout Sale, helped make last week the most successful week the Spirit Store has ever had!
Judy Bain and Donna Coyne, for the wonderful job they did as Catholic School Week chairs - again! The teachers felt very spoiled all week with Starbucks coffee, flowers and lunches delivered all week!
Amy D’Alise and Julie Harned, for organizing a delicious appreciation lunch for the faculty and staff to end Catholic Schools Week.
Last week, the PTO delivered a treat to every child in the school. We also gave the entire 8th grade a Pizza Party to finish out the week’s activities, for their outstanding collection efforts of canned goods. Thanks to Jennifer Bowring, who helped me hand out 74 dozen donuts and 25 extra large pizzas in just a few hours time on Friday! Elizabeth Vincent, our Special Events coordinator brought Enrichment programs to the Preschool and 4 grades last month!
- Preschool got a house call by the dentist;
- Kindergarten was visited by Dan Henry, the weatherman;
- 1st grade enjoyed learning about Mammals from Carlos Olivo, a St. Monica dad;
- 2nd grade got to learn about daily life in Japan with the Japan in a Suitcase program;
- 3rd grade learned about stories in art with the Go Van Gogh program.
This month is not quite as eventful as last month, but here is what’s planned for February: Kathleen Fischer – “Right Here, Right Now” – Discussing Developmental Issues of Middle School kids– Tuesdays, February 5th, 12th and 19th
Thursday, February 14th
- Valentine’s Parties for Preschool – 5th grade - 1:30 – 2:30 pm
- Bingo Party – 6th grade
- Treats provided to all Middle School students
Friday, February 29th
2nd Grade Field Trip to the Majestic Theater and the Science Place
As we prepare for the Lenten season, we find that there are so many reasons to be thankful to be part of the St. Monica community. We wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day and a great month! Laissez Les Bon Temp Rouler! Linda White PTO President
