November Newsletter

Hello, everyone!

October was such a wonderful month for everyone at St. Monica.  There are so many people to thank for the incredible efforts made on behalf of our school to help make our annual Autumnfest such a resounding success.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather, and we appreciate all of you coming out to enjoy the day.

MANY thanks go to the following individuals:

  • Nina Salhab, our October Speaker, who started off the month with a great discussion about Kids Nutrition;
  • Mary Sladek, the PTO Parish/Family Coordinator, for creating a very special Blessing of the Animals Event;
  • Kathy Dougherty, Autumnfest Chair and Tricia Tobolka, Autumnfest Co-Chair, for putting on such a smooth and successful event;
  • ALL of the Autumnfest Committee Chairs and members, our unsung heroes of the day;
  • ALL of the Grade Level Reps and Homeroom Parents, for helping to create best-ever Grade Level baskets and for providing all of the volunteers needed for Autumnfest, and for following it up 4 days later with very fun Fall Class parties and treats for the kids.

This month we have another full slate of activities and events planned for you:

  • Friday, November 2nd
    Deedy Hamer, our Hospitality Chair, already organized on a very “spirited” Open House last week with an SMS theme and decorations.

  •  Monday, November 5th – Friday, November 9th
    Mary Sladek has coordinated a wonderful opportunity for all of you to support both the St. Monica Book Fair and our troops overseas with the USO “United Through Reading” Program.  Buy at book at the Book Fair or bring one in.  Just look for the boxes in McManus and the library!  All books collected will be given to a member of the Armed Forces at Mass on Friday, November 9th.  A group of children will also be taking the books out to the USO Reading Room at the DFW Airport.

  • Tuesday, November 13th
    Join us at our PTO Meeting at 7 pm
    , in the Downstairs Lounge, where we’ll hear the fantastic results of Autumnfest and where June Cooper will speak to us on “What is a Stanine?  Making Sense of Your Child’s Achievement Test.”  This is sure to be a great presentation on helping all of us understand how to read the Achievement test results that just came home!
    The Homeroom with the most parents at the meeting wins a Pizza Party for their child’s homeroom!

  • Wednesday, November 21st is Grandparent’s Day.
    We have a very special program planned for the Grandparents this year in the classrooms and Mass!

It’s another exciting month with many activities planned.  Please check out the newly posted full-year PTO Calendar on the PTO website for what’s coming up.  If you’d like to get involved, we’d love your help.  As always, if you have any suggestions, please feel free to pass them along to us at pto@stmonicaschool.org.  We hope that you and your families all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
