December 2007

 Dear Parents,

We hope that everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving and that you got enough to eat.  Ha!!  Thank you for helping us with our Thanksgiving feast—It was so nice seeing our families all together.  A special thanks also goes to Karen Gibbons for coordinating the Thanksgiving basket for the needy family – It was beautifully put together with your contributions.

And now December is upon us with all of its Christmas activities.   Here are a few of the events of which you should be mindful:

CHRISTMAS ANGEL
Once again we have chosen to “adopt” a little angel – a child around 4-5 years old, whose family doesn’t have enough money to provide a good Christmas.  Each of our children will be asked to bring a present – a new toy or craft or a new article of clothing for that needy child.  We will collect the toys and clothing here, and the children will carry  them over to the Office of Faith Formation.  More on this later.

  ST. NICHOLAS DAY
He was the saint who became Santa Claus, and who is the Patron Saint of Children.  We celebrate his day on Thursday, December 6, when our kids will set their shoes outside the classroom doors, in hopes that St. Nick will come and leave treats in their empty shoes.  PS: They are being very good, as they wait for St. Nick.

  CHRISTMAS PLAY
The Pre-School classes will have their presentations of “The Animals’  First Christmas” on

  • Wednesday, December 19th (Mrs. Seltzer and Mrs. Rebone’s 4’s)
  • Thursday, Dec. 20 (Mrs. Arraj and Mrs. Rebone’s 3’s)

Performances will be in the Family Center Upstairs Lounge at 9:00 a.m. on both days.

Our DK teachers are now choosing actors to play the speaking roles of Mary, Joseph, Shepherds, Angels, Sheep, Wise Men, Camels, Donkey, and Santa.  Our music will be directed by Sarah Spickard, who is the mother of Ryan in Mrs. Rebone’s 4’s, and who is an accomplished pianist and vocalist. Rehearsals will begin next week during class hours, and you will soon receive a copy of your child’s “lines” to practice.

Please plan to come to your child’s performance  and to stay for the Christmas party afterward in the classroom.

EARLY DISMISSAL
On Friday, Dec. 21, we will dismiss early for the Christmas Holiday.  NO STAY-N-PLAY.

Let us all remember to keep Jesus as the “reason for the season”.
