Dear Parents,

WESTERN DAY

Last Friday was lots of fun, especially after having spent Thursday in the dark with no electricity and lights in the building! Hope by now you’ve had a chance to see our very-well-dressed little cowpokes on the SMS Website.

DK HAS BUGS!

As you know we are learning about bugs, insects and spiders.  So we’re calling all bugs -- Wanted dead or alive – bring ‘em on!  There are two bug rules to remember:

  1.  All bugs must be in a container, and
  2. your child must be willing after showing them, to release the bugs into the grass outside.your child must be willing after showing them, to release the bugs into the grass outside.

GOING GREEN

As you might know EARTH WEEK begins on Monday, April 21, and DK  will devote a week to Environmental studies.  Our lessons will include the following:

Recycling
Throughout the school year, we have always collected aluminum cans (like soda and beer cans) in a container in the hallway, and these have been taken regularly to homeless people who sell them for cash. We will continue this project, so we need your cans.  Also, please send in your plastic, metals and glass, cardboard, etc, so that we can teach the children about recycling and reusing.

Planting
In learning about the importance of trees and green things in our environment, our children will also participate in planting some veggies and flowers in the new SMS garden.

Art & Posters
Using only recycled and saved materials, the DK students will create some wonderful works of art that will be displayed in the Family Center.

SPORTS DAY

Have you signed up your child for the Dads’ Club Sports Day, Saturday, April 19 (tomorrow)?  It sounds like loads of fun – from the Tri-Cycle Road Rally (using our very own tricycles) to the Soccer Challenge with hot dogs, trophies, music and a Jump House—all in one fun filled afternoon.

COMING SOON...

More information on Kindergarten Roundup (Friday, May 2) and Muffins & Mass with Moms on Tuesday, May 6.

Thanks for all you do; have a lovely and safe weekend.
