Fr. Mills was a man with a tremendous faith in God, who was captivated
by the dignity of the priesthood and who took great joy in being able to help people.
~ Monsignor Meyers
Former pastor of St. Monica
Father Brindley J. Mills Scholarship
The Father Brindley J. Mills Scholarship Fund was established in honor of Fr. Mills upon his death in April 2006.
Fr. Mills, although he did not become a priest until he was fifty-nine years old, served the diocese of Dallas for over thirty years. He served at St. Monica as an assistant pastor during two different assignments and lived in residence at St. Monica until he was ninety-nine years old. Fr. Mills lived a full and active life.
Prior to becoming a priest, he taught high school English, worked for the U.S. State Department, and operated a dry cleaning business in Rome.
Fr. Mills’ final wish was to establish a scholarship fund to help families afford a Catholic education at St. Monica School. St. Monica School is very appreciative of the generous donation from Fr. Mills’ estate that will make it possible for multiple scholarships to be granted to either current or new St. Monica School students.
For the 2010-2011 school year, the Father Brindley J. Mills Scholarship Fund will award approximately fifteen scholarships to deserving students entering grades four through eight at St. Monica School. Each scholarship will be a one-time grant of $2000 to be applied to the student’s tuition for the coming year. Recipients may re-apply for consideration in following years.
Applicants will be evaluated based upon their academic record, financial need, personal character and conduct and the content of an essay submitted as part of the application process.
To be considered for the Fr. Mills Scholarship:
- the applicant must have applied for admission to St. Monica School, or be a current student at St. Monica School;
- the applicant must be entering grade four, five, six, seven or eight;
- the applicant must be of good character and likely to succeed at St. Monica School;
