Cross Country
     


 
The Cross Country season consists of 2 regular meets and a championship meet. To qualify for the championship meet, a runner must particpate in one of the regular meets. Our teams consist of JV Boys and Girls (Grades 5 & 6) and Varsity Boys and Girls (Grades 7 & 8). Athletes will receive navy blue Nike tempo shorts and a newly designed Cross Country Tank (see Coach Clark for the design competition).

 

 Coach Clark has developed the following goals for each runner:

  • Runners will time themselves in a mile run. First goal will be to reduce 1 minute off that time before the season. (Remember runners only compete against themselves, so they can determine the outcome!).
  • Use August and the start of September to acclimate to the weather and running.
  • Use the last half of September to push for improvement, work on beating your earlier time!
  • Have fun!

 

The Cross Country Meets are October 2, 9 and 23. The first meet will be at Norbuc and the final 2 meets will be a Bishop Dunne.
 
J V teams race at 7 a.m. and Varsity teams race at 8:15 a.m.
 

Practices will be on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and an optional Saturday practice at 9 a.m. Practices will normally be at Brookhaven Community College. Athletes are to meet next to the tennis courts at the water fountain. Practice on August 24 will be at St. Monica due to the heat. Athletes should bring the following items to practice:

Watch, Running Shorts, Water Bottle and Towel

 

 The Bearcat 5K Run has been scheduled for Saturday, October 30. More details to follow. Coach Clark is also entering runners into the September 18th Ocktoberfest Race a great warm up for the season!
